Hospice Auction is for everyone

The 2018 version of the Hospice and Community Care Labor Day Auction begins early Saturday morning with breakfast. As hard as it is to imagine, it gets even better from there.

Even if you aren’t the typical auction attendee (whatever that is), there’s plenty to do, even if you don’t register for a number.

A huge crowd from surrounding Amish communities have this morning’s breakfast fixed for you, including made-to-order omelets and sticky buns. And of course, donuts, pastries, pies, cakes, and sandwiches are available all day. The food is so delicious, it takes an entire Solanco Fairgrounds building to hold it all.

lillyOn Labor Day, the featured breakfast fare is the Breakfast Log, and people line up to get one.  It’s so delicious, so heavy, cardiologist probably wouldn’t recommend it.

More than 500 volunteers assist the staff with the auction’s organization, including loading and unloading two tractor-trailer loads of merchandise early this week.

Finding the Solanco Fairgrounds is easy, and signs are also posted along the way. From York, follow PA route 74 south through Red Lion to PA route 372. Turn left to cross the Norman Wood Bridge, and following that into Quarryville. It’s about 43 miles and an hour’s drive.

phanaticA 2018 Ford Mustang will be auction off at the end on Labor Day, but there are literally truckloads of items before that happens. The fairgrounds’ nine buildings are all used for various items–new or used items, sports memorabilia, landscaping and plants, collectibles, artwork, furniture and more than 100  fabulous Lancaster County quilts.

This the schedule for the weekend from the Hospice website. Remember, Sunday is NOT an auction day.
